Shortly after midnight Saturday, crews were on scene of a fire at Inland Marina in Evansville, Indiana.
Three people were cleaning on the large house boat, which was docked at the marina, when they smelled smoke and reported a potential electric fire, Fire Investigator Kim Garrett said. The boat became heavily engulfed by the blaze and that boat then drifted into “a couple of other boats and caught those boats on fire,” Garrett said.
Fire officials said their biggest challenge was getting water onto the boat to put out the blaze because of the marina’s configuration. An additional alarm was called to supply hose needed to reach the length of the dock.
Heavy smoke billowed into the area and the fire continued to burn well past 3 a.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
