Firefighters battled a blaze in a dust collection system at a southern Indiana business late last week.
The fire occurred at Jasper Rubber Products, a manufacturer of molded, extruded, and cut rubber and TPE products. When firefighters arrived, the dust collector building and the stack were fully involved.
Neighbors told news personnel from Evansville’s WFIE that they heard an explosion just before the fire.
The blaze was extinguished in a few hours, but cold temperatures were causing water to freeze.
No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.
Jasper Fire Department is no stranger to dust explosion events. A January 2009 explosion in a dust management system heavily damaged a local furniture manufacturing plant and sent a number of people to the hospital.
