Massive overnight fire at lumber yard causes power outages

BELLA VISTA —A massive overnight fire destroyed T.H. Rogers Lumber Company building off Hwy 71 in Bella Vista Friday morning.

Police discovered the fire when they responded to a building alarm just after 2 a.m. For nearly six hours, firefighters fought flames that continued to spread causing more damage to surrounding businesses, including a clothing store and furniture store.

Power lines and poles were engulfed in smoke and Carroll Electric cut off the power to thousands of homes on the east side of Bella Vista.

Stephen Sims, the Bella Vista Fire Chief, said, “due to the large amount of fire we had, we called in additional support for that water.”

Bella Vista police closed down one lane on each side of Highway 71 in response to the fire.
