Fire extinguished at hydrogen plant, no injuries reported

WILMINGTON – Firefighters today extinguished a fire in a turbine at a hydrogen-production plant in Wilmington, and no one was hurt.

Firefighters were sent to 700 N. Henry Ford Ave. at 6:04 a.m. extinguished the fire in 57 minutes, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Following the fire, crews sampled air downwind from the facility, but no hazard was detected, Scott said.

The company — Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. — produces hydrogen for commercial use by refineries, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
