Ontario – Saturday’s fire at H.J. Heinz Company’s Ontario factory caused as much as $15 million to $20 million in damage and took several hours to extinguish.
Firefighters responded to the fire around 8:20 p.m. in the mixing room on the second level of the factory, Ontario Fire Chief Allan Higinbotham said. Smoke filled the entire plant, and the fire took some time to locate due to its location deep within the facility.

No one was injured in the blaze.
Higinbotham said that the sprinkler control system helped contain the fire outside of the control area, and fire crews from both Ontario and Fruitland spent seven hours at the scene.
The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, and Higinbotham said that Heinz is bringing in its own investigators.
