Paints and solvents accelerate blaze

A FIRE at a Dandenong line-marking business last night caused $1.5m of damage to the building and equipment.

Dandenong CFA senior station officer Daryl Owen said the damage bill from the fire at the Amberley Cres factory was high because of the type of line-marking equipment stored at the premises and the role paints and solvents played as an accelerant.

“The fire is under investigation, but is believed to have started with paint thinners,” Mr Owen said.

Mr Owen said nine brigade vehicles attended the fire at 10.05pm and brought it under control in half an hour.

He said the municipal building surveyor was called to assess the damage to the building’s structural integrity.
