About 100 firefighters have brought a big factory fire in Sydney’s south-west under control.
The blaze broke out around 3:30am (AEDT) at the complex on Alfred Road at Chipping Norton.
The factory was a recycling plant for tyres and plastic.
Superintendent Ian Krimmer from Fire and Rescue says crews managed to save the surrounding buildings.
“It’s too early to say what was going on inside the factory, once we get the fire extinguished we’ll go through to see if anyone was in there or how the fire started,” he said.
“We’ve had 100 firefighters from 20 stations who battled for a number of hours to contain this fire. We still have a fair bit of smoke coming off the fire, we are monitoring the atmosphere constantly. At this stage there’s no risk to the community. Also at this stage we still have no idea exactly how the fire started.”
