BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) — Booneville firefighters spent little time extinguishing a small fire at the Caterpillar plant Monday morning.
Fire Chief Jerry Wallace says the fire happened in an area of the plant where grinding equipment is used to clean gaskets off water pumps.
He says shortly before 11 a.m., it appears a spark from the grinding process got into a filtering system and started the fire.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they pulled the filters out and extinguished the fire.
He says damage was minimal and work was expected to resume at the plant.
Caterpillar operates the Booneville plant as part of its remanufactured products group.
