Detroit firefighters worked to contain a massive fire at an abandoned factory on the city’s west side Thursday, WDIV-TV reports. The fire has been declared a HAZMAT situation.
The building is near Livernois and I-94, according to WWJ. A WWJ reporter on the scene said the northern end of the building was crumbling, with bricks falling down.
News outlets and bystanders captured the fire in photos posted to Twitter, and users tweeted images of smoke filling the sky around the city, as well as from miles away. One person tweeted that he could see smoke from Schoolcraft College, about 15 miles away.
