Fire hits Filipino tarp factory

MANILA – A fire razed a factory of tarpaulin and road signs in Quezon City on Monday afternoon.

Arson investigators said the fire hit Ropely Designs and Display, located at 36-A Sgt. Esguerra St. in Barangay South Triangle, at 2:24 p.m.

The fire, which reached the third alarm, was declared out at 3:31 p.m.

Authorities estimate the damage from the fire at P2.3 million.

Residents of the nearby El Jardin del Presidente condominium were forced to evacuate due to thick smoke. The street was also closed temporarily to traffic to give way to fire trucks.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
