Fire in WI wood pellet plant

APPLETON — A Tuesday fire has closed a fuel pellet manufacturer for several days.

The fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. at Pellet America, 2601 W. Second St., burning for just under two hours, said the Appleton Fire Department.

In operation at the time of the fire, the business’ alarm alerted the fire department along with a 911 call from employees. No one was injured in the fire, said Lee Kasten, fire department spokesman.

A spark ignited during the manufacturing process likely started the fire, which was difficult to extinguish because of the highly combustible materials made at the business and hard to access machines.

Managers from Pellet America told the fire department that it will take several days before they are operating again.
