Crews respond to large fire at Newton Co. business | WLFI – Newton County, Indiana

NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Seven fire departments assisted the Kentland Fire Department at a large fire at Lehman Manufacturing in Newton County, including one from as far away as Watseka, Illinois.

Newton Co. Sheriff Don Hartman told News 18 the fire started around 8:50 p.m. local time.

It took about six hours for firefighters to extinguish the fire.

According to Kentland Fire Chief Vince Lowe, strong winds put a neighboring business, Agventure D&M, in jeopardy.

The winds soon shifted and blew the flames away from the neighboring building during the course of the putting out the fire.

Mike Davis, owner of Agventure D&M, showed his gratitude to firefighters by offering them a late night snack of pizza, popcorn, and hot chocolate.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
