Fire at N. Dakota business stopped by sprinklers

Fargo firefighters say a sprinkler system helped stop a fire from spreading inside a South Fargo business Friday morning.

Firefighters were called just after midnight to the Lavelle Company on 4th avenue south.

Upon entering the building, fire crews discovered that the sprinkler system had extinguished a fire located in a room that was used for staining and spray finishing wood products. The fire involved a four foot portable work bench that had tools and staining supplies stored on it.

The fire caused no structural damage to the building and there was only minor smoke and water damage to the room where the fire was located. There was nobody present in the building at the time of the fire.

A release from the Fargo Fire Department indicated that a possible cause being investigated includes spontaneous combustion of oily rags that were discarded in a metal container next to the portable work station.
